Dandenongs

The Dandenongs are a mountain range just east of Melbourne. On Saturday we decided to take a little road trip up to the Dandenongs for the afternoon to visit William Ricketts Sanctuary. The sanctuary is filled with clay figures of Aboriginal people that illustrate the connection between nature and man, as created by artist William Ricketts. We were told that we also must have Devonshire Tea while we were in the Dandenongs (it is apparently the thing to do - there are tea rooms all over the place), so we also sought out a place for a snack. We ended up at "Pie in the Sky" in Olinda. The Devonshire Tea they served - scones (which tasted more like buttermilk biscuits) with raspberry jam and cream - were quite nice and great for our sweet tooth. Then we decided we should also try a pie, considering our restaurant of choice, so Josh went with the Aussie classic pie floater and Kristi tried a tandoori chicken pie. We preferred the tandoori chicken; however, when it comes down to it, we must not be real Australians at heart because we could live without these kind of pies in our diet!

It was a cool foggy day, but a nice day to be in the hills. We enjoyed our time and will definitely be back!
