Wilsons Promontory

This Australia Day weekend we decided to head to Wilsons Promontory, a beautiful national park in the southernmost point of Victoria. Our 3-day weekend was cut in half due to increased workload and looming deadlines at Josh's work, but we made the most of the holiday time we ended up with.

We had booked an outstation campsite near a remote beach for Sunday night. After a well deserved sleep in Sunday morning, we packed the car and enjoyed the 3-hour drive through the country to the Prom. We began our 10km hike into the Oberon Bay campsite around 2pm with overcast skies and threats of rain, but fortunately the clouds blew over and we had a easy walk in on a super-highway track. We set up camp, explored the beach while braving the wind, cooked dinner on the campstove, made friends with some kids from the next campsite over, and identified all of the things we forgot (a clock, flashlight, playing cards, and Kristi's contact case). Before hitting the sack we had a great conversation with some fellow Aussie campers.

Monday we awoke to a beautiful sunshiny day. We packed up camp and headed out on our 8km hike back to town. This day of hiking was a bit more challenging as the track followed the coast around two bays and the sunny day made for much warmer temps, but the scenery was spectacular and made for a lovely day. After we picked up the car we made a stop at Squeaky Beach (appropriately named for the noise the sand makes as you walk along the shore) to have a dip in the ocean and wash off some of the dirt. Then we were back on the road to Melbourne and to work - yay for a wonderful break with no phones or computers!
