Everyone was out and about on January 26 for Australia Day! Can you spot Josh in the crowd in front of the train station? Australia Day is a celebration of the day that Australia was discovered. Activities are similar to those on July 4th or Memorial Day in the States - picnics, parades, fireworks - but the Australians informed us that it is not as big of a celebration.
We made our way to the beach mid-morning to soak in some rays and also had a nice picnic lunch. Later in the day we were invited by one of Josh's coworkers to a "real" Australian BBQ. All that needs to be said is that the Australians know how to cook their meat and drink their beer! Over a 7 hour period we were served sausages, chicken kabobs, lamb chops, and steaks...with sides of cheese, chips, pickled beets, and cucumber/tomato salad...much VB (Victoria Bitter) and wine...and don't forget dessert! That's not a BBQ, that's an Olympic Event. Holy cow. Or should I say, Whole cow! Sounds like it was amazing. And the "Where's Waldo" effect with Josh and the train station is fun. Although the loud shorts were a dead giveaway. :)
Thank goodness it was minimal walking to get home!
I just want to know who pavolova is that she got such a great looking dessert named after her!!
